Yahoo is the Expert on Sucking
You wouldn’t think that Yahoo would deliberately make their TV listings less useful. You might even think it impossible for them to do so. But it is and they have.
I had it set as my homepage. Not because I have a homepage, technically. I open Opera with no tabs, thankyouverymuch. But because I could use ctrl-space and open it quickly.
So about an hour ago, or so, I ctrl-spaced and got a 404. Oh, a dressed up 404 sure, but a 404 nonetheless. Because Yahoo is never content with A) what’s working or B) what’s already sucking. They need to make it suck MORE.
So I browse around trying to get the TV listings to show up. At least it seems to have kept my channel preferences. At first, I can only see the channels up to about 20-something. But I wait, and wait, and eventually they start showing up at the bottom of the page.
They’re annoying, because there’s a textbox at the top of the page with the cursor sitting in it, so I can’t just page down to see more. And if you click on a listing by accident.. simple to do when you’re trying to get the cursor out of the stupid textbox.. then it shifts everything to show you the description. A-nnoying.
At least it shows me 3 hours worth without doing weird wrapping and cutting off, like it was. But it’s less easy to scan.
However, the capper is, I reset my homepage to this new URL. And I went back to revisit it. It gave me the schedule for 2 hours ago, when I last loaded it. Lame. So I refreshed. And now I have nothing. Well, I have the days of the week at the top of the page, but no listings. I don’t know what it wants from me. Where does it want me to click?
More importantly.. why should I bother?
