I only just now found out that the CW (Creative Writing?) has an Aquaman pilot, called Mercy Reef, but have decided not to go ahead with it. Found out from geek-week.net, which Jun pointed me too because of their Joss Whedon interview. Which, btw, is too heavily comic book. Should be comic-book-geek-week. With 'week' in quotes. Anyway, where was I?
Oh yea, there's a trailer here. I found it on the list of links over on the right there.
It's from the creators of Smallville, but doesn't use the same actor as the Aquaman episode of Smallville. It could be interesting, except for the whole 'hot young people in swimsuits' aspect, which the CW (Cat Whiskers?) should love. It's named after a place, which the CW (Cranberry Wine?) should also love.
I can't be too sad about its fate, but I would've liked to give it a chance.
Now we'll never get to see boats destroyed every week.

I downloaded some Detective Academy Q (Tantei Gakuen Q). Not strictly my cup of tea from the description, but it didn't take much to get me hooked. Something about a decent shounen series that makes you just have to keep going and going and going until there is no more.
It's about some students at a detective academy (go figure). So there's lots of murder mysteries (what is it about detectives that people keep dying around them?). None of the characters are gayboys (that I know of) or otherwise particularly interesting. Well, maybe one, slightly. Only because he's a bit more mysterious than the others.
The main character reminds me a bit of Azuma Kazuma from Yakitate. Voiced by Ogata Megumi. The plot arc I'm into now reminds me of Lost.
It's kind of interesting to try to figure out the solution before it's revealed.
It looks like some subbers were doing it and various dropped it. But someone recently picked it up and there's only a few eps left that aren't subbed. I'll probably have caught up with them soon.

This is pretty cool. Top 10 Strangest Gadgets of the Future. I like the origami DVD player. I haven't watched the ones with video clips instead of pics because someone's got torrents running. :)

After more than a week of rain, the pink petals from the crab-cherry trees or whatever they are formed clumps and then dried. They look like a papier mache cherry blossom thing exploded. I just say all this to explain what the pictures are in my photo album (which is now linked over on the right there).
I also walked down to take a picture of the baby geese by the ponds. There's at least 4 families of them. They're really cute close up. I don't have an optical zoom, unfortunately. I got pretty close to some before I remembered that geese can be mean. I didn't want to face down a pack of mean geese. There's goose poo all over the paths down there. If I got any pictures of that, it's purely incidental.
Bug me for the userid/password for viewing the album.

Bed Bath and Beyond sells Adam Sandler a universal remote that controls everything. Hilarity ensues and lessons are learned. Or something. They showed two commercials/behind the scenes things at the movies for this even before they ran a trailer for it during the previews. Then I keep seeing it on television commercials now, including interviews during the commercials with the stars. As if it's so bad that even a trailer can't sell it properly and they need to get the stars to tell you to go see it. He punches David Hasselhoff. I guess if you have a thing against Hasselhoff, you can go see it for that.
The Garfield: Tale of Two Kitties trailer doesn't even describe the plot. Just.. Garfield is in England for no reason, and there's a bunch of other CGI animals to do stupid things like.. protect the castle from invading hedgehogs. I have no idea what they're doing or why there are pigs in a castle.

Blogger is so freaking slow. Granted I was running torrents, but still. Five freaking minutes and it still wasn't showing me the create page. I'm going to have to move to WordPress. When I have the time to futz with it.
I just wanted to say I've watched 4 episodes of Princess Princess and it's good. The subtitles on the first episode I got weren't, so I grabbed it from the better subber after. It's about an all boys school and some of the boys are princesses for the other boys. And the art is what I like and it's funny too. I don't want to say too much more, because I think part of the fun is finding out about the whole setup while you watch the first episode or two. I don't remember if it's based on a game or if anyone good was in it, because it's been awhile since I read the blurb that got me interested enough to try it. Bishounen and crossdressing. Nuff said.

If you truly want the US national anthem to be sung in an American language, it needs to be in Klingon.
I realized I couldn't be the first person to have this thought, and Googling shows I'm not. However, I couldn't find any copy of the song in Klingon.
So if you want to submit a version to me, or an mp3 of you singing it, or some promotional graphics, or anything of the sort, I will collect it all and make a website for it.
Alas, I cannot translate it myself. My Klingon lesucks.

Thoughts on DS9 and Spike:
Vedek Bareil was spelled wrong in an earlier ep (I think it was the 3-part arc, so it was spelled wrong 3 times) during the credits. It's spelled right in this ep, "Shadowplay".
At least I think it's Shadowplay. See, Spike puts the TV rating square right over the name of the episode. So it's more like.. dowplay. Not to be confused with Yoplait.
Spike also has these annoying large moving graphics that block a lot of the credits at the beginning. If I were the actors whose names were being blocked, I'd be quite annoyed.
But at least their graphics don't make noise, like some channels. Dude.. translucent logo is one thing.. huge moving videos in a corner of the screen with audio louder than what I'm trying to watch is not cool!
Back to DS9. I never liked O'Brien. I actively disliked him. I guess I don't dislike him so much now. But I still don't like him. I always thought Keiko was too cool for him.
Contributing to the dislike is probably the fact that he had 3 episodes in a row! It was O'Brien/Bashir trapped on a planet. Then it was all O'Brien, even narrated by O'Brien. Then it was O'Brien/Sisko trapped on a planet.
Kira plots don't thrill me. Sisko plots don't either, especially when he's found some new chick to fill in for his wife. Dax is cool. Bashir is cool. Cardassians are fun. Ferengis are really fun. Odo is intriguing. Am I forgetting one? Oh yea, Jake and Nog are fun too. I could totally get behind a series based on DS9's school. :)
So, anyway, glad we seem to be done with O'Brien episodes at the moment.

A cheeseburger tastes fine.
Closed captions are frustrating at times, annoying at others, and amusing at still others. Jon Stewart on the Daily Show was talking about drugs being legalized in Mexico and said, essentially 'I know what you're thinking.. is that a teaspoon or a tablespoon?' And the closed captioning came out with 'A cheeseburger tastes fine.' What the heck?
From reading lots and lots of captions, there's essentially 3 kinds.
1) Live, or somewhat live, programs are captioned by computer. Which results in the most amusing, er.. results.
2) Dramas and things like that are often captioned from scripts. Which can mean that they're outdated as scripts were later changed before the final aired version.
3) Humans. Which means you're relying on the brains of the human and their familiarity with the source material and accents. Which means British science fiction isn't going to fare well.
I don't know if Doctor Who's problem is 1) or 3). If it's 1), it's an American computer.
And..
A) Some shows, especially older ones or ones aimed at kids are captioned in sort of abridged versions.
It's A) that annoys me the most.
Oh yea, and er... let's call it.. I)
I) Some captions are right over important information, usually on reality shows or talk shows. Placement, people, placement!
And um...
Ia) A corollary. The captions always block my VCR counter.
