Smallville was opposite other interesting shows this year, so I hadn’t been trying to keep up. In fact, I hadn’t watched a single episode. I started to remedy this a few days ago. All hail the mighty torrent, may it live forever (or until something better comes along).

One wonders why it took so long for something like this to emerge. There used to be huge con lists, but no one really wanted to maintain them. Hopefully this one will stick around. Find a convention near you, or find one near your friend’s couch.

The Return of Jezebel James? Or something like that. I started watching for a few minutes and was about to turn it off when I saw the scene change to HarperCollins. Okay, so the show’s about a children’s editor… with a publishing house product placement. Well, it got me to keep watching anyway. Still not quite sure what the premise is. Is the sister pregnant or having the editor’s baby or what? And why’d she hide from her father? Or is he just the father of the first sister? So, yea, bit confused. Might watch it again if it’s not opposite something else.
House. Rerun, but it sucked me in before I realized what was happening and found it was too late to try turning to Celebrity Apprentice, which may or may not have been an episode I saw yet.
And the capper has until I wake up in the morning to post Torchwood ep 11 at the very least. Then I’m finally bailing and acquiring 11 and 12 elsewhere.
Still no sign of Torchwood 11 in standard definition. I’m not downloading the monster high-def file. I think my laptop would choke on the playback. It didn’t fair well with anime I tried it on and those are only half an hour long and I think there’s less information in them. The filesizes of anime always seem to be half the size of live action stuff I download, so.. And Torchwood 12 airs tonight. I guess I can be patient. There’s only a couple eps left before the end. But at least I will have new Doctor Who to console me.
The Diets That Time Forgot episode 1. A bunch of overweight Brits go back in time to try old-fashioned fad diets and exercise regimes to see if they can lose weight. One set is ‘Victorian’ and is following a diet rather like Atkin’s. One is ‘Edwardian’ and is following the Chew-Chew diet, chewing each bite 32 times. The other is ’1920′s’ and seem to be eating like rabbits. Seriously, where are they getting their protein? An American version of this would be interesting to see. Maybe we could have a Native American diet, something Western, maybe Pilgrims (enough of them starved that it’s sure to work!), or Revolutionary War or Civil War.
I watched the extras on the Sound and Fury DVD.
Honey and Clover LA episode 9. I haven’t quite finished watching it, but I will.
‘Til Death. This is usually opposite something more interesting, so I haven’t seen too many episodes. Which is just as well, because while it’s good enough, it would annoy me in large doses.
Trouble Online episode 5. British show. This episode was about a company with a travel website focused on students taking their ‘gap year’. Which is a concept that we don’t have in the US. I expect it helps being so close to Europe with a whole ton of countries. If Americans want to travel somewhere ‘different’, it’s a bit more of a trek.
The Sound and the Fury. A DVD from the library, a documentary about Deaf attitudes to cochlear implants. I may have seen it before on TV. Not sure. Haven’t watched the extras yet.
Lost. Um.. they’re still lost.
Eli Stone. This episode ended rather open-endedly.
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, because as much as I know I should go to sleep before then, I’m not ready for the day to end. And I never do manage to catch the reruns.
Unfortunately, I can’t say I watched Torchwood, because I haven’t even downloaded it yet! My favorite torrent site doesn’t have it up yet. I might get desperate and grab it from elsewhere, but at this point I couldn’t watch it until tomorrow anyway, so I might as well wait another 19 hours or so.
Horizon: How much is your dead body worth? I like Horizon and this was a new episode, but it was rather morbid, kinda gross, depressing, and not terribly interesting. Talked about bodies used for transplants and medical research and training and the black market thereof. Did not once mention cloning. What’s up with that?
Extraordinary People: The Girls With Too Much Skin. Girls with harlequin ichthyosis, which I may or may not have spelled correctly. I watch so many shows like this that the medical conditions are rarely even new to me, as this one wasn’t. But there was some interesting genetic stuff and geneaology involved.
Brainiac Science Abuse series 6, episode 9. I’ll take this opportunity to say I don’t like Vic Reeves’ characters. The gasbangwallop thing and the Russian guy. They talk slowly, they’re rather offputting, and their segments are pretty boring anyway. Just blowing things up or setting them on fire.
Biggest Loser Couples episode whatever. This was the makeover episode, so was overall pretty boring. Makes one rethink the strategy for winning though. Don’t reach your ideal weight before the show ends or you’ll lose.
The Jane Austen Book Club. I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish watching this. Good movie and makes me want to read the book. Though I probably would’ve eventually anyway! It even almost makes me want to read Jane Austen. But don’t hold your breath on that one.
Little People, Big World. I watched the rerun of the two episodes that aired last week. I do like this show, but I forgot to watch it last week, and I don’t like it enough to record the 8 and 8:30 episodes.
Big Bang Theory. Yay! New episode! And it was pretty good. And you can check out YouTube Clip: Physicists Gone Wild!. Spoiler alert though. :)
It seems the universe has decided I need more to watch. While at work today, one of the ladies at circulation had just checked in a movie and asked if I’d seen it. It was “The Jane Austen Book Club”, which was based on a book by Karen Joy Fowler. I admit I have not read the book (yet) and I also have read little (more likely none) of Jane Austen. But I was assured I’d like it anyway. It had been on my library list already anyway, so I definitely checked it out then and there. It’s a hot copy, so I couldn’t have put a hold on it.
Then about an hour later, the same situation occurs, but in another location with another person! This time it was Dan in Real Life, which gets bolded, because I watched it already. “The Office” is only so-so, but Steve Carrell is good. The movie wasn’t really my sort of movie, but it was pretty good.
Plus two DVDs I had on hold came in, so I came home today with a lot of stuff to watch.
Brainiac Science Abuse Series 6, Episode 8. Those of you lucky enough to have that cool video game-ish channel.. is it E4 or something like that?.. will recognize this show. It’s another British show, reminiscent of Mythbusters. The earlier seasons were better. It’s gotten more gross and more blowing-up-stuff and more sexist and more innuendoish. In other words, it’s moved further away from my demographic. But it’s still interesting, so I still watch. I do worry that Jon Tickle, who’s an awesome presenter and a science buff and, in short, a geek, is being made to seem this season and last like someone sub-ordinate to the other presenter and someone to be made fun of for his smarts. (And I could mention how Tickle got his start as a house guest on Big Brother, but I won’t. — Whoops.)
And I have a full night of TV viewing lined up starting at 7, so the rest of the stuff on my computer and the other DVDs will have to wait.
