Search Referrals - 11:50PM, 2002/10/31

Going through the search referrals… (because I’m procrastinating going to bed.)

baseball slash fanfiction – um. No. NO. There will not be any of that here.
gay yaoi cannibalism – see above.
mt. holyoke early decision – sorry, I didn’t apply there early decision. You should go to Wellesley anyway. It’s better.
larg nipples – I don’t know who Larg is, so his nipples probably aren’t going to be appearing on my page.
coolest words in the english language – I don’t know about all of them, but one of them is definitely “astrophysics”.

And Ponyfic! The MLP maniac and I are in awe.

A New Layout - 11:00PM, 2002/10/30

New layout is up. Mostly. As usual I’ll probably tweak it over the next few days. ^^;

And as usual it messed up the archives. Gyah. They’ll fix themselves in a few days… they usually do.

Encounters - 3:49PM, 2002/10/30

Ran into Anne today in the foreign language building. Heh. I arrived early, so went into the lounge to study, and there she was.

Argh. Must. Finish. Algorithms.

I am so sick of taking this class. This is the third time (and the third school), and it’s going to be the LAST.

Mystery Solved - 1:09AM, 2002/10/26

So I looked it up and it turns out that the half and half is heated to ultra high temperatures before it’s sealed in the plastic things. This completely sterilizes it, thus there are no bacteria to make it spoil.

Interesting.

Earlier tonight I watched the new Sherlock Holmes movie that they showed on USA. It was… interesting. I don’t know if I liked it. Vincent D’Onofrio was Moriarty, and something about his acting bothers me. I’m not sure what, but I actually watched Law and Order when it was on instead of ER yesterday and it bothered me then too. The premise of the movie was that it was a prequel of sorts — Sherlock was just starting out, just meeting Watson and Lestrade for the first time, not yet famous, not yet having many of the bad habits he would later develop. I’m not all that familiar with the Holmes canon, so I really can’t say how much they deviated from that, but there was an awful lot of sex involved which struck me as highly odd. (Let’s not even talk about the threesome.) Anyhow… it struck me as a ‘pilot’ for a series of movies.

The MI run continues. I am determined to finish this weekend.

And since I really have nothing else to say I’ll close with a quote from Prof C, who got a little carried away in class on Thursday. “That’s why they’re biologists. Because they failed math.”

A Mystery - 2:46PM, 2002/10/25

Question of the day:
Those little plastic bubbles of half and half don’t need to be refrigerated. Why don’t they spoil?

So THAT’s who he is - 1:18PM, 2002/10/24

This is not the first time I’ve heard of those Philip Pullman novels. They’ve been sort of in the back of my mind under ’should read eventually’ for some time now. His name didn’t ring a bell with me, you see, and I am pretty slow about picking up new authors. (Or even new series from authors I already like.)

Then, today, I was in B&N at lunch. While browsing along the YA rack, I notice a book by Philip Pullman. It mentions that it’s by the author of “The Tiger in the Well” and I think, “hey, I read a book called that.” So I poke around and discover that it is, in fact, the same guy. ^^;;; Not that I’m surprised I never connected the two. a) One hardly expects an author of adult fantasy novels to write historical adventure/romance which are almost certainly aimed at teenage girls. b) I mistakenly purchased book 3 of a trilogy (Tiger) and read it first. Unfortunately that means I never did get book 1 or 2, as I already knew what happened in them.

Still… I think I’ll have to move all of those books higher on my list.

*blink* - 12:23PM, 2002/10/21

Bilingual Chobits!

Why did I not know about this?!

(They have Peach Girl too. Down with TOKYOPOP. :P Mika and Jordan my ass.)

Bootlegs Schmootlegs - 6:13PM, 2002/10/20

Kyoko is evil.
Mitaka is an ass, but with a pinch of sweetness.
Godai is sweet, but with a pinch of jackass.
Why haven’t I watched this show for 2 years?

When I got home on Friday I found my highly illegal HK DVDs of Maison Ikkoku waiting for me. For several weeks I’ve been wanting desperately to watch this series again, but my lousy EP fansubs were of poor quality when I got them, and the intervening 6 years and numerous watches have done nothing to improve them. Several episodes are completely unwatchable due to skipping.

So I wanted to buy the series on DVD. The whole thing. But Viz, in spite of the fact that it’s been releasing the thing for ~8 years, has yet to actually FINISH. And they haven’t released any of it on DVD yet. What’s a girl to do? It is available on R2, but without subtitles. And I’m not comfortable watching a show like this without subtitles — I feel like I miss too much. So… my money goes to the pirates. And you know what? I don’t feel the least bit guilty over it. If Viz had supplied the product in a timely fashion, I would have purchased it. But they didn’t. So too bad.

In any case, I have been immersed in MI all weekend. Only about halfway done.

@#$@# - 11:14PM, 2002/10/15

No entry. Blogger was being uncooperative.

Howl Fans Unite - 4:47PM, 2002/10/11

Another Howl fan! Mei-chan, did you read Castle In the Air yet? It’s billed as a sequel, which I guess it is in a technical sense, as it takes place after the first book. It’s more ‘another book in the same universe’, to my mind. But it’s good.
