On the election…

I am deeply ashamed of half of our country. I just don’t understand how anyone could possibly look at George W. Bush and think “This is a man who should be the leader of the most powerful nation on Earth”, “This is a man who cares about the individual Americans whose lives his decisions affect”, “This is a man who is willing to look deep into problems and understand the possible ramifications of his actions”, “This is a man who has moral values that are similar to mine”. Because I do not honestly believe that most of those statements are true for the majority of people in this country, if they were willing to think. For once.

In brighter news, my own state managed to elect a Democrat as governor to replace the corrupt Republican. But our state also has a gubernatorial term of 2 years only, so no one can do too much damage before they’re up for reelection. Whoever came up with that was wise.

On stupidity…

The other day I got to work and realised that I had not brought with me a drink with caffeine in it. This is problematic, as if I do not have just a wee bit of caffeine at lunch, I get a headache in the afternoon. Withdrawal is not fun. There is, of course, coffee at the office, but I don’t do coffee. I’ve tried it; it makes me feel sick to my stomach. So I decided I would go to Panera for lunch and get a soda, thus solving the problem. Lunch rolls around and after placing my order I go to fill my cup with diet pepsi. Which I do, then eat, and then leave. It is only as I go out to the car that I realise: I took CAFFEINE FREE Diet Pepsi.

On productivity…

I had a productive weekend. It started on Friday, when I managed to get to work early, thus allowing me to leave early. So I was then able to stop at the movie theatre on the way home and see a show. After that I stopped and got my hair cut before finally coming home — all before 7pm! Saturday we saw another movie, then Bob and I went downtown and walked up and down the main street before finally selecting a restaurant and having dinner. And we again made it home before it was too late, leaving plenty of evening in which to relax. Sunday, we trekked down to E’s place for her sister’s Pampered Chef bonanza, and when we got back, I finally sat down and reassembled the telephone jack in our bedroom and got the standard-sized plastic plate to fit onto it.
