Two Thumbs Down - 9:48PM, 2005/01/25

Snow on Saturday night is a waste for everyone.

Especially when it leaves the roads still a sort of mess on Monday.

And then more snow comes, to make the Tuesday commute a bear.

So I was in a bad mood when I reached the exit before work today. As I pulled to a stop at a stop light, I looked out my window to see the back of the car in the lane next to me.

And on the bumper of the red car was Trogdooooooor.

Books Tally - 8:00PM, 2005/01/01

Total read: 154
Percentage that were manga: 40% (62)
Percentage that were non-fiction: 10% (16)
Percentage that were childrens/YA: 19% (29)

So overall a good year, but artificially inflated, I think, by the number of manga that were read. Also, no foreign language books at all this year, which is rather sad.

But not a bad year for non-fiction; 16 works out to more than one a month. I want to try and beat that this year, though.

Asshat Update - 7:51PM, 2005/01/01

J1 sent job possibility to my mom to forward along to me. The catch? The job is in WAKEFIELD. For those who are map impaired, as J1 appears to be, that is 80 miles away, to the NORTH, near Lake Winnipesaukee.

Adventures in Gift Returning - 7:46PM, 2005/01/01

For the Yankee swap extravaganza, I bought a Speed Racer DVD at the beginning of last month, for $10.99 at Best Buy.

Unfortunately, at the time of purchase, I used some of those McDonald’s Best Buy bucks, which the checker proceeded to deduct one or two dollars from every single item which I purchased. This annoyed me greatly, because it boded ill for future returns — I was going to ‘lose’ those bucks if I returned the item, and I’d get back only the amount in cash that I paid.

But I saved the receipt just in case anyway. And it turns out that I didn’t end up using that particular DVD. Yesterday, I carted a pile of unopened DVDs back to Best Buy to return them; they took all of them but the Speed Racer, which they claimed was ‘no longer in their system’, which meant they couldn’t take it back without a receipt.

Grr.

So today I took it over to Suncoast to see what they would make of it. Score! Not only did the guy there take it back, he gave me $39.99 in gift credit for the stupid thing. Ho ho ho.
