. . . I was in 5th grade. That morning, when I woke up (all right, all right: when I was woken up by my mother) and went downstairs to eat my breakfast, my mom had news for me and my brother.
“I’m in labor,” she said, as if this was no news at all.
And she got us breakfast just as usual and sent us off to school.
