I must have found out about Pink Carnation when I was skimming through all those professional magazines that pile up at work. The description hit enough of my button-words that I picked it up.

I must say, in terms of alerting one to newly available books PW, Booklist and Library Journal are extremely efficient. Except of course in manga, graphic novels and technology. :P

Well. Compared to a lot of the writers we've read, she's pretty good. I don't think she's especially weaker than the average YA or children's chapter book writer. What the entire field is suffering from is a lack of good editing. :(

I should leave this comment over on TT, but I may forget it before then!

You say she's a good writer. Obviously from my review, I disagree. I think she's a mediocre writer who needed a good editor.

However, I didn't catch on to the change in styles from Ursula and Dan's viewpoints. So good catch. It makes me think a little better of the writer. A little.

Yeah, Ackroyd is pretty early on. It's #8 maybe. It's one of the few where I usually remember who did it -- quite a few of hers I never can recall even if I've read them more than once.

I probably wouldn't bother with them if not for the show. I like the humor, but there are other humorous mysteries that don't have the crutch/aid of a tv show to add to their meta-amusingness.

Finally I have read Naked Heat and can come back and read what you had to say about it. I definitely agree that this installment stands alone much better. As it stands now I'd probably read the series even if it had no bearing to the show. The mysteries are still kind of meh but I like the humor.

"... odd sock."
